Sew Toot Digital Designs- Make a custom baby carrier.

Now that I am a grandma, I am becoming interested in all things "baby".  I had never heard of the Tula Baby Carriers until my sister-in-law and mother of twin boys clued me in.  She also told me about a pattern that gives those of us who sew a chance to make one of a kind carriers.  The pattern is from Sew Toot Digital Designs.

I hadn't thought of doing a post about this pattern but I was so pleased with the results, that I thought I would share what I learned. I didn't take photos of the process but I can tell you that the pattern is full of color photos that are very helpful.  The instructions are detailed and well written and include references for finding the straps, buckles and foam needed for the project. All sizes and full size pattern pieces are included.

I used a very heavy denim which made sewing through all of the layers a bit difficult.  Be sure to use a denim needle.  I even used a leather needle for part of the project.  Sew slowly when going through the very thick layers.  I have to admit that the pattern was a little intimidating at the beginning but once you read through the whole pattern.....yes, you should read through before starting...it all made sense and was easy to follow.

Here's how they turned out:

I delivered them today and we tried them out with the boys.  They are so comfortable!  The weight of the child is on the waist so there is no pulling at the shoulders and they can be worn in front or on the back.  If you're thinking about making a carrier for an infant or toddler, I think this could be just the thing!
