Holiday Cheers Wine Tote Pattern- So Clever!

Well, we've had our first snowfall here in Western New York.  We were visiting our cottage on Lake Chautauqua this weekend and I took advantage of the time away from the rat race at home to sew, sew, sew.

The snow put me in a holiday mood so I pulled out this adorable pattern that I bought recently.  It's called Holiday Cheers Wine Tote from The Sweet Tea Girls Patterns.

The Sweet Tea Girls, Leigh Headington and Betty Berginski, are based in Cary, North Carolina...safe to say there is no snow there today!

This pattern appealed to me because I have a whole drawer full of grommets that I keep on hand for making the Cape Cod Carry-All and the Cape Cod Mini.  I like to take wine to friends during the holidays but have never been too enthusiastic about the standard fabric wine bags.  These clever elf boots are like giving an additional gift because they are decorative in addition to being a tote.
  Love it!!!
My sweet tote by the fire.
Wine Tote...now a decorative vase.

This pattern is well written with great diagrams, instructions for making bias binding and instructions for adding grommets that I think are better than those that come from the manufacturers! It is safe to say that The Sweet Tea Girls are meticulous about their instructions.  Full size templates and the fact that it is fat quarter friendly make this pattern a keeper for me.

I will share a small problem that I had in making these booties.  Can any of you out there in blog land tell me the very first direction for 95% of patterns (including mine!)?  If you answered, "Please read all directions before beginning",you are correct.  In my defense, I was following the directions until I got the tote assembled and it was just so dang cute that I just had to see it with the grommets!  So I put the grommets on before binding the top edge.  BIG mistake!  Those grommets don't bend when you are trying to apply the binding on the machine.

These binding-less cuties are going to have the grommets popped off and reapplied after the binding is attached.

I think you will really enjoy making these adorable totes and give this pattern an A+!  Ask for it at your local quilt shop or go to www.thesweetteagirls.com.
